It may be time to buy a new camera.  I have been taking photos with my Pentax K10 since 2006; I like what it does, so why change?  I feel a bit of pressure from all the photographers around me (all self-induced.)  They are using $3000 and $4000 cameras.  Mine cost just under $1000 for body and lens.  It is only 10mp.  Do I need more?

I do like the Canon.  But will it make me a better photographer; I don’t think so.  My vision is my vision no matter what I shoot with, right?  Any suggestions?  I really don’t have $3000 to spend on a new camera.  In fact, I really just love my Holga 120N ($25).  If you have any ideas or thoughts on YOUR favorite camera, please shoot them my way.  Nikon?  Canon?  Sony?

Walnut Creek Mint (for tonight’s spring rolls.)

I would love to hear what you all are shooting with and see some of your work.  Provide links to your photos if you can; I’d love to see the work and know what camera made each photograph.  Thanks for all your comments and e-mails.

Unschooled children do the most amazing things.  This fort (more pics to follow) was built by two unschooled boys (and sometimes a sister) over many years.  Tunnels, chutes, trap doors, secret rooms, all recycled.  Now that is education at its best.

~Okay, here it is the cute little plastic medium format camera~

It takes wonderful Pics and can be found HERE.

Become.com is also a great place to get sports stuff:  injury gear (wrist brace?) , Olympic weight sets?, maybe even Wilson golf clubs if you like that sort of thing.  Personally, I’d stick to buying my camera gear there.  Or HERE.   Become.com has a great and diverse selection of ALL sorts of cool stuff:  running shoes, books, printers, you name it.

Have fun with your new Holga!  More pics coming soon; I just sent off three rolls (til I learn to develop my own.)

Leaf Structure

This wet leaf was lying on a rock in Walnut Creek

I took the photo with my Pentax K10 and used a (plastic) holga 60mm macro lens to get in close.  Fun.

My New Holga!

Got a new Holga 120N!  Click on the link to read about this cheap, medium format, toy camera.  The scans are pretty poor quality but the desired effect is obvious: strange and unpredictable light leaks, dark lens vignetting, and one specific focal point with everything else fading to a blur.  Simple and fun.

The film is scratched by a rough edge within the camera.  I could have taken it out in photoshop, but…I like the effect.

I mean, really, it’s a plastic camera.
